Tarot Spread: Kimberly Norwood

Kimberly was last seen at approximately 5:15 p.m. in her hometown of Hallsville, Texas. She was walking with three friends in the Caney Creek Estates subdivision at the time. The four children went their separate ways less than one mile from Kimberly's family's house. She never arrived home and has never been heard from again.

Less than an hour before her disappearance, Kimberly had an argument with her mother over the telephone because her mother refused to let her spend the night at a friend's home. She is not believed to have run away from home, however; her parents think she was abducted. They theorize that the kidnapper(s) lived nearby, because the subdivision where she vanished is rural and densely wooded and a person unfamiliar with the area could become lost easily.

The home where Kimberly resided at the time of her disappearance has since been torn down, but her parents live in another house close by. She was within two weeks of graduating Hallsville Middle School at the time she went missing, and was due to enter Hallsville Junior High School in the fall. She was a good student who had tested into accelerated learning classes.

Kimberly's hobbies in 1989 included horseback riding and spending time with her friends and her sister. Her case remains unsolved and is classified as a non-family abduction.

For this particular reading, I shall use a different method that was used by Servant of the Fates. They suggested a thirteen-card spread, so while I still prefer using a Celtic Cross with ten cards, today I will use their method.

1)      The Empress (present) – Nurturing, abundance, mothering, beauty, a businesswoman, creativity, solving problems creatively, a successful business or opportunity.

Kimberly could, at the time of writing, be a mother. If so, this could mean that she is alive. However, this could simply mean that there may be a link to her mother or another maternal figure in her life, or even that she is close to a successful business.

2)      Ten of Swords (problem) – Ruin, a sudden ending, a negative outcome, depression, the result of wrong choices, falling just before the finish line, hardships, a bad omen, projects failing, being stabbed in the back.

This is a very unhappy situation. Perhaps the identity of Kimberly’s abductor will be known, but they will pass on before they can be arrested. They may be already dead. Or we may find Kimberly, but it will be ‘too late’, so to say. Swords indicate westwards, so she could be ‘ten’ of something westward. Swords are connected to spring, the time of year that Kimberly was taken.

3)      Page of Cups (past) – Poetry, handwritten communication, an art student, a younger sibling, school or college friend, a youngster or child. Poets, artists, dancers, altar boys, fundraisers and charity workers, waiters.

The Pages are sometimes known as Princesses and I believe this could be the case as we are looking at a young female. Was Kimberly an artistic sort of child? This card is very likely to represent the time before her abduction. The dates associated with the Page of Cups encompass September 21st to December 20th, which Kimberly’s birthdate falls under.

4)      Eight of Wands (Near Future)

Acting quickly, overcoming obstacles, communications, events moving quickly, blockages removed, law of attraction in action, working quickly and efficiently. Postmen and deliverymen, magicians and illusionists, event organizers, lightworkers. November 23rd to December 2nd.

Whatever will come next in Kimberly’s case, when law enforcement are on the right path they shall work swiftly and find the answer soon enough. The wands also suggest days, so when the police are on the right track they might find an answer within eight days.

5)      Queen of Swords, reversed (Conscious Goal)

A complainer. Someone verbally vicious, ruthless or manipulative. Cunning, cold-hearted, spiteful. An analytical and intelligent woman, likely to be educated or has an interest in education. The timing covers the dates between September 12th and October 12th.

This particular sword is pointing at the cards below her; the Empress, Ten of Swords and the sixth card (Two of Wands). This means that this card might govern the other three.

Could a woman be involved in Kimberly’s abduction? Or is this Kimberly herself? The final date that the Queen of Swords represents, October 12th, is her birthday. But this might be a coincidence.

6)      Two of Wands (The Buried Truth)

Being in control, gaining control, dominating another or a situation. Wanting more, not being satisfied with your lot. Business partners, workers and planners, hoarders and collectors.

Someone is in control of the situation. This might mean that whoever took Kimberly has a hold on her – whether she is alive or dead – and refuses to divulge any information. They want more, which could mean that they are a repeat offender. Concerning directions, wands symbolise south, which may mean that Kimberly is ‘two’ of something southwards.

7)      Knight of Wands, reversed (Advice)

Arrogance, egotism, misspent creativity, delayed travel plans and blockages, prone to boredom, a trickster and liar. Tour guide, soldier, actor, electrician. Someone energetic and ambitious. They may be sporty, but are definitely adventurous. They are determined but hasty. This card might imply travel or leaving home, a change of job or promotion, acting quickly in business or taking risks.

The advice that the card gives us that someone, or a number of people, must not be arrogant when looking for Kimberly. There may be blockages (a lack of a warrant, perhaps?) and the culprit is a trickster so there may not be enough evidence.

8)      Wheel of Fortune (The Environment)

Luck, chance, opportunity, movement, the cycle of life, ups and downs, a chance meeting that can change your life, good times, success. Gamblers, casinos and card players, stockbrokers, shift workers and pawnbrokers.

It seems as if there will be a lucky strike. As I said earlier in this reading, if law enforcement comes across a clue, it will lead to solving the case. The Wheel of Fortune is linked to ‘Ten’, but I am unsure if this connects to timing or distance.

It may signify the physical environment that Kimberly is now.

9)      Four of Cups (Hopes and Fears)

Settling for what you have. Missing opportunities, apathy, melancholy, indifference, accepting what you have, wanting what you can’t have.

The Knight of Wands controls the Four of Cups, which could mean that these two cards are linked. Somebody is worried that someone else will be arrogant. Could this mean that Kimberly is afraid that she will not be found? Is she afraid that those that are searching for her will overlook her?

This card is a very upsetting one when referring to a missing person, especially when linked to hopes and fears. The person in the card is staring down at the Wheel of Fortune, which could mean that, if Kimberly is alive, she wishes to escape the dreary life she is in.

10, 11 and 12) Two of Swords, reversed; Four of Wands, reversed; Six of Cups, reversed (The Ultimate Outcome)

Two of Swords – Becoming unbalanced, discord, disagreements, mental blockages, a wrong decision, emotions winning over logic. Managers and magistrates.

Four of Wands – Delays to completion, obstacles causing delays, problems at home, mishaps and accidents. Estate agents, homemakers, project managers.

Six of Cups – Living in the past, skeletons in the closet, leaving the past behind, living to old traditions. Family historians, families, children, childminders, nursery workers, teachers, florists, youth workers.

The Queen of Swords oversees the Two of Swords, so I would hazard a guess and suggest that the conscious goal is related to the outcome. It appears that there is a rather unhappy outcome in this case. Could something close to Kimberly’s home somehow prevent her from being found? Could she have known her abductor? It seems quite likely that the abductor knew the surrounding area, as the place that Kimberly was last seen was somewhere rural. Might they be the person indicated by the Queen of Swords?

But what puzzles me is that whatever the answer, children are involved. I am not sure if this means Kimberly herself, but it appears that there is some connection to children and this will possibly prevent a happy ending.

13) Knight of Pentacles (The Underworld; what can help or hinder)

Business travel, employment opportunities, trustworthiness, slow but steady progress. Landscape managers, soldiers, engineers, mechanics, builders, estate managers, police officers, bankers. Remembering common sense, being determined, digging deep and pushing through.

It seems as if there may be someone at hand who can assist Kimberly in this case. Someone (possibly in the police force) may choose to go down the avenue of interest at hand and look for this child. My message to them is to use common sense and be realistic when searching for this girl.

(Yes, I realise that I am telling people to use common sense while providing a Tarot reading for a missing person, but that’s what the cards say.)

This card depicts a man on horseback overlooking a ploughed field. I would suggest that people should start looking in such a location. As fields are ploughed in the springtime and the Pentacles represent winter, I would say that a clue will become available sometime at the end of winter.

As for which winter, I am unable to say.
